Athens Highlights by Car

See the essential Athens without the long walks between hills in the heat. Your chauffeur drops you as close to the Acropolis as cars are allowed and collects you there afterwards, which suits families, older travellers and cruise guests on a short visit.

You have close to three hours for the Acropolis and the Acropolis Museum. Entry is by timed slot, so please book a slot that matches your start time. Then come short hops to the Temple of Olympian Zeus and the Panathenaic Stadium, the marble stadium of the first modern Olympics.

The finale is Lycabettus Hill. The car drives up to the car park just below the summit, and a short climb brings you to the finest view over the city. The afternoon departure runs April to October, when the sites stay open late, and brings you to Lycabettus around sunset.

   The Parthenon above the city, and the museum at its foot.

   Your chauffeur drops you on Dionysiou Areopagitou, the pedestrian street below the hill, and waits nearby. Climb to the Parthenon and the Erechtheion, then see the original sculptures in the glass-floored museum. Acropolis entry is by timed slot and the museum has its own ticket; tickets for Greek state sites are sold on the official e-ticket site hhticket.gr and at the gate.

   2. Temple of Olympian Zeus and Panathenaic Stadium · 30 min here

   Giant columns and the all-marble stadium of 1896.

   See the towering Corinthian columns of the Olympian Zeus temple beside Hadrian's Arch, then ride the short distance to the Panathenaic Stadium. You can view the stadium from the gate, or buy a ticket to walk onto the track and up the marble seats.

   3. Lycabettus Hill viewpoint · 40 min here

   The highest viewpoint over Athens, sea to mountains.

   The car climbs to the car park just below the top; from there a short flight of steps leads to the chapel of Agios Georgios and a full panorama of the city, the Acropolis and the sea. On the afternoon departure you arrive around sunset.
